Imagine turning a room into a scale model of the Universe with just a pair of glasses – Augmented Reality is ready to transform the classroom of the 21st century, offering a large variety of significantly different learning opportunities for today’s students. On Sunday, October 20th, three of our lab members, Xinyu, Joanna, and Alex, were invited to present PAL and its STEAM-AR project to the wider public at IF Oxford, the Oxford Science and Ideas Festival (https://if-oxford.com/). Featured in the festival’s Explorazone at the historic Oxford Town Hall, St Aldate’s, the team enabled about one hundred visitors to engage in their first Augmented Reality experience on Smart Glasses using the lab’s Hololenses and discover how AR can unfold its magic. PAL exhibited AR apps built as part of the impact accelerator for AR in education of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM-AR). We used a mix of live experience and digital media presentation to facilitate discussion around research and innovation conducted at the Oxford Brookes University Performance Augmentation Laboratory.
